Alexandra Duque

Qualification & Education

Alexandra is a Portuguese Clinical Psychologist and a current graduate member of the PSI (Psychological Society of Ireland). Alexandra attained her degree in Clinical Psychology in Portugal, in Egas Moniz – Higher Institute of Health Sciences, has a Master degree in Psychology – Psychotherapy from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Psychology, a Post-Graduation in Clinical Hypnosis, from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Medicine and a Pos-Graduation in Psychodynamic Clinical Psychology from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Psychology. Experience

In the last 12 years, Alexandra has been practicing in Portugal with a wide variety of clients, namely inmates, children and adolescents at risk, cancer and MS patients and their families and, in the setting of private practice, depression, anxiety, phobias, bereavement, family and couple issues and trauma. Alexandra has provided individual, couple, family and group therapy and has experience in conducting psychological assessments, as well as providing workshops and teaching communication, health psychology and developmental psychology to graduate students in health sciences. Her experience in research, conferences and publications are mainly in the area of health psychology, communication with clients and clinical hypnosis.

In her clinical practice, Alexandra uses psychotherapeutic integrative techniques stemming from psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy, clinical hypnosis and mindfulness.

Empathy is the foundation stone of the therapeutic relation, and every talk therapy or session develops on it. So, these are Alexandra’s main concerns as a therapist – the Person and the Connection – the techniques are just a mere instrument to help this precise person to seek new paths, responses, hopes or behaviours.

Life brought Alexandra to Cork and she has accepted gladly that challenge, being astonishingly received by a beautiful city and by its welcoming people. She is now pursuing her professional and personal development in a new setting, with different challenges, however guided by the same life principles – to help people find a better way to personal well being, in other words, to help finding our unique inner peace . mentalhealth.ie/alexandra-duque
